This coil is for the standard ignition system found on older cars and is a direct replacement for the Lucas DLB101. The coil body is 55mm diameter and the coil tower is made from phenolic resin. Complete with fixing clip.

12 Volt ignition coil for ballast system (Col202) Lucas equivalent DLB102 Ref: CLS10251
This coil is for use where a ballast resitor is used to aid starting. Whilst the starter is being operated the ballast is shorted out, giving the coil the full 12 volts. When the key is released the current is drawn through the ballast lovering the voltage by 2 or 3 volts. This coil is a direct replacement for the Lucas DLB102. The coil body is 55mm diameter and the coil tower is made from phenolic resin. Complete with fixing clip.

This coil is used for electronic ignition systems where the mechanical points system ("make & break") is substituted by an electronic switching system. It is a direct replacement for the Lucas DLB193. The coil body is 55mm diameter and the coil tower is made from polyester. Complete with fixing clip.

Ballast resistor 1.6 Ohm (Replaces Lucas 47222) for Lucas type coil DLB102 or similar. Ref: CLS1026
Ceramic ballast resistor as used in some ignition circuits where the ignition coil is less than 12 volts; the ballast resistor brings the voltage down to compensate for the lower working voltage of the coil. When the ignition key is turned to "start", the resistor is shorted out, giving the coil the full 12 volts and therefor a much hotter spark. When the ignition key is released the current has to flow through the resistor to give the coil its working voltage. An engine that starts readily but stops when the key is released, often has a defective resistor.

Spark plug tester Ref: CLS10261
Inserted between the spark plug and the high tension lead, the unit flashes each time the spark plug fires. This immediately highlights a problem if the plug is defective as the unit will not flash or flashes erratically. You can also discover which cylinder is misfiring, something which is difficult without this gadget.

Distributor cap push fit type 45D4 Ref: CLS1027
This cap is used on many 4 cylinder BMC engines fitted to the MGB, Midget, Sprite and many others. It is similar to the Lucas GDC136 cap. It is a push fit cap, held on by spring clips, with push fit high tension lead sockets. Distributor caps can develop faults which are difficult to see with the naked eye. This causes misfiring, often only when the engine is under load, so it will tick over sweetly but becomes rough under acceleration.
